Q&A Wednesday: Why should I care about Medicare?

When you hear the term “Medicare,” the first thing that most people think of are old people, but there is a lot more to Medicare than what you see in those commercials, and it can be of particular interest to women who are dealing with chronic illnesses.

We asked integrative healing expert and Medicare benefit consultant Rosa Elena Spence,

Isn’t Medicare just for old people? Why should I care about it?

“Medicare may not be something that is currently impacting your life, but it’s important to know exactly what it is, and who is entitled to this type of coverage.

Medicare isn’t just for seniors and retirees. People who are dealing with long term illness and are receiving Social Security Disability payments for 24 consecutive months are also entitled to receive Medicare.

It’s important to know this because Medicare only covers hospital insurance (Part A) and medical insurance (Part B), and there are deductibles and monthly premiums associated with Medicare Part A and B.

If you or a loved one become disabled and are not able to work, knowing what your healthcare insurance options are give you more power to choose the best care available.  Educate yourself about all of your options, and make sure that you know everything you need to know so that you can plan powerfully for your future.
